Lisd Calendar 2023 – Longview ISD is making a $229 million bond call this spring to address a variety of facilities needs and campus improvements.
The LISD Board of Trustees approved election warrants for four bond proposals at its Feb. 14 regular meeting. If approved by voters on May 7, the proposals would fund the Longview High School campus, a new career and technical education facility, an extracurricular activity center, a new early childhood campus and much-needed facility renovations and upgrades. .

"If voters approve, Longview ISD will use a general bond," he said. "This is a debt owed by the school district and it must be paid from the school district's property taxes."

Revenue generated by the county from the general bond sale will be used to fund the projects. Principal and interest are paid from the annual property tax levied on all property within the district.

The bonds paid for renovations and additions to Johnston-McQueen and South Ward (now Bailey) elementary schools, Judson Middle School and Longview High School.

In November and December, from the Center for Quality Leadership in Granbury, Dr. Don W. Hooper was contracted by the county to conduct a facility assessment and assist in the development of a master plan for potential improvements, repairs and renovations needed. Longview ISD.

"Regardless of facilities, all of our facilities will require major maintenance at the same time over the next ten years," said Dr. Wilcox said. "If approved by Longview ISD voters, this bond provides funds to students, staff and the community for significant facility updates and upgrades.
The administration will form a LISD bond committee that will include community members, district staff and trustees, Drs. Wilcox said. This committee will help contribute to the community and guide the project if approved by voters.

The board also approved the district calendar for 2022-2023. Classes will begin on August 15, 2022 and end on May 26, 2023. The opening ceremony is tentatively scheduled for May 19, 2023.

Deputy head of district services dr. James Hockenberry said.

"If necessary, the administration will look at all the different factors and make changes or modifications at a later date," he said. "But going forward, this is the district calendar we will be working with for the 2022-2023 school year."
STAAR test dates include the weeks of December 6-9, April 4-6, and May 2-12, as well as STAAR preparation dates of June 20-23.

Board members also approved: a $100,000 donation from AAON Coil Products to fund adult classes in Longview ISD; a $6,105 donation from the Lobo Baseball Booster Club to help purchase supplies and equipment for the Longview High School baseball program; Dr. an $800 donation to LISD's backpack program from Longview Regional Medical Center in honor of James Wilcox; and a $500 donation from GKC Enterprises to help provide new uniforms for the LHS cheerleaders.
Trustees usually meet at the LISD Education Support Center (1301 E. Young Street) board, but often hold specially called meetings at various locations throughout the district. The next regular meeting is tentatively scheduled for 18.00. March 21, 2022
