Rrisd Calendar 2023 – Round Rock ISD is seeking staff and community input regarding the 2021-2022 academic calendar and will offer an opportunity to submit feedback via a survey from January 17th to February 2nd.
A calendar committee comprised of district and campus staff and parents from each learning community (the feeder model) compiled calendar options for the 2021-2022 school year. The commission presented these items to the board at its regular meeting on January 16, 2020. The RRISD board will review the calendar committee's recommendations and community feedback before making a decision at its regular meeting in February 2020.

Before participating in the survey, community members can view Option 1 and Option 2. Drafts are also available in Spanish for Option 1 and Spanish for Option 2. The survey is available in English and Spanish.
What You Need To Know About The Rrisd Academic Calendar For 2021 2022
Like the 2019-2020 and 2020-21 calendars, the Option 1 and Option 2 draft calendars for 2021-22 include 75,600 working minutes. State professional development waivers include 2,100 operational minutes using five days of professional development each school year. The draft calendar also includes two days of teaching minutes that can be saved if school is closed or delayed due to bad weather.
Both Option 1 and Option 2 draft calendars have a school year that begins the third week of August, a full week off at Thanksgiving, and two weeks off during winter break. Both include professional development days/teacher days/non-student days in August before the first day of school, through the winter holidays in December and January, and later days and after the last day of school in May. . Both option 1 and option 2 calendars have the last practice day before Memorial Day. Each option consists of four days in each semester from 1:15 p.m. Early dismissal from high school on the day of the final exam in high school. Private tutoring is also available daily from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. for all high school students and begins on the first day of the second full week of classes each semester and continues until the day before the final exam.
Changes to the calendar include the first day of classes and the allocation of student holidays/staff professional development days during the academic year. Option 1 is very similar to the current academic year and the already confirmed 2020-2021 calendar with Monday/Tuesday holidays in October and February. Option 2 would start school one day earlier than option 1 to allow for an extra vacation/staff professional development day during the school year. These professional development days are then spread throughout the year (September 27, October 11 Columbus Day, November 1 the day after Halloween, February 21 President's Day, and March 11 before spring break). The professional training days in December and January are also the same in both draft calendars.

Differences between calendars include the day school starts. Option 1 starts on Thursday and ends the year so the May final exam will be a week away. Option 2 starts and ends on a Wednesday, creating a May final exam week for high school and providing some balance in the number of days in the term. The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2022-2023 school calendar. and at the 2023-2024 regular session on February 17.
The community had an opportunity to review and provide feedback on a potential calendar earlier this year. An Academic Calendar Committee made up of parents, teachers and administrators reviewed the feedback and made a final recommendation to the board.
In recent years, each calendar has included working minutes for two days of school closures due to things like inclement weather. A two-week winter break is built into each calendar to allow families extra travel days between vacations and students to return for the spring semester the first week of January.
The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees approved the academic calendar for 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 at its regular meeting on Feb. 17.

Before final approval of the calendar, the community had the opportunity to review and provide feedback on two options for the academic calendar from January 18th to February 3rd. These options were designed by a calendar committee comprised of district and campus administrators, staff, teachers and parents based on previous calendars and community feedback from previous years. This year's community feedback reviewed by the calendar committee showed strong support for the first draft presented. This option was then moved forward as the only recommendation for approval.
The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees also approved changes to the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 academic calendars at their Feb. 28 regular meeting.
Getting Involved In School Districts
The change included the addition of daily classes for all high school students from 8:30am to 9:00am to allow for a 1:30pm start day for all 4 days of high school final exams each term.
