West Ada Calendar 2023-24
West Ada Calendar 2023-24 – The Houston Independent School District Board of Education has approved a proposed 2022-2023 school calendar that adds an extra spring break in April and moves the last day of the first semester before winter break.
The calendar includes a week of Thanksgiving break, two weeks of winter break, and a week of spring break. Students and staff will be closed on Labor Day, MLK Day, Chavez Huerta Day and Memorial Day. HISD will also have a fall break on October 5th and two spring breaks on April 7th and 21st.
West Ada Calendar 2023-24
Trustees approved a grant from the Texas Department of Education to support high-quality extracurricular activities. $882,500 in Emergency Elementary and Secondary School Assistance (ESSER) III funding to accelerate student learning due to COVID-19. These funds support three areas: staffing high-quality after-school learning, technical assistance in the design and implementation of after-school learning, and effective learning in after-school programs.
School Year Calendars
The trustees approved a $100,000 donation from the US Soccer Foundation to the M.C. Ms. Williams. Donations are made through the Foundation's It's a Game for Everyone and Safe Places to Play programs. Fixtures and materials will include a mini court system design including LED posts, play walls, built-in goal posts, canopies, seating, polycarbonate backboards, accessible goal posts, with play lines and coordinated school colors and an acrylic mini court surface with logos.
The board also approved an in-kind donation from Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. The church will provide $30,000 worth of supplies each to Blackshear ES, Cullen MS, Lawson MS and Yates HS. The purpose of the donation is to create a resource room in each school to help students in need. Donated materials include clothing, personal care products and a subway map.
