New Trier Calendar 2023 – Students at New Trier High School won't have to spend part of their 2022 winter break studying because school officials move final exams to next December.
At their June 6 meeting, the New Trier District 203 board unanimously approved a schedule change for the 2022-2023 school year that puts first semester final exams in December before winter break. Traditionally, students take their final exams in January after the winter break.

School officials are tracking adjustments in their willingness to accommodate colleges and universities that want to review student grades mid-senior year.

"With due dates and college decision dates changing schedules, it is important to keep the college informed of our students' progress by providing official (seventh) semester grades to colleges in early January," Superintendent Paul Salley wrote. statement. Memo. on the board before the meeting.
At the school board meeting, Seeley added, "Putting this grade in front of the decision makers can only help these students."
Under the new scheme, final exams will be held on December 19 and 20, followed by Institute Day of Student Absence on December 21 and the last day of the semester on December 22.

When that happens, next year's first semester will shrink to 83 days — where the regular semester is 89-93 days — with the first day of student participation set for Aug. 22.
To accommodate the shorter semesters, Sally said, teachers may have to move parts of the curriculum from the first semester to the second semester.
"I'm not sure if this is the right solution for this community, but I think we can have an unbalanced semester, which has its own costs and benefits, or how we adapt," he said.

Sally presented the board with a tentative calendar for the 2023-24 school semester with an earlier start date, but only as a discussion point. He said that further discussions will be held in February.
