August 22nd is the first day of the 2022-2023 school year based on state law guidance. The calendar was developed in the fall of 2021 by a committee that included teachers, parents, community members and staff, according to a district press release.

Lone Star College-CyFair is opening its library for tours to the public, allowing them to learn about space and win prizes.

The 'Bog In to Your Library Tours' program returns to LSC-CyFair libraries Jan. 24-27, Jan. 31-Feb. 3 and February 7-10. The librarian-led tours last 30 minutes or less and registration is not required. Participants can meet near the entrance of the LSC-CyFair Technology Building, and have a chance to win.

"These three weeks of introductory tours are offered to help reduce barriers of library anxiety for both students and community patrons," said Liz Nebeker, reference librarian, in the college's press release. "The tours cover the library resources and services available to assist in the success of the classroom and community project. Come learn 'where to do what' in the library and meet our librarians who are 'special resources' here to serve you."

Franklin Sampson, Cy-Fair ISD's director of guidance and counseling, has been elected to the Lone Star State School Counselors Association's office of counselor educator.
"This will be a great opportunity and will allow me to continue giving back to others," Sampson said in a press release. "It's part of my daily goal to do everything I can to make an impact in someone's life. Serving in this capacity will help our organization grow to greater heights. I have the unique position of supervising nearly 300 school counselors, 19 social workers, four mental health intervention counselors and one substance use counselor. I will use my influence to continue to build on this great association."

Tomball Isd Adds A New Student Holiday For 2022 23, 2023 24 School Years
Cy-Fair ISD had 18 wrestlers medal during the 19th CFISD Invitational Jan. 7-8, including two individual championships.
Cypress Ranch High School girls wrestlers finished as the top CFISD school, while the Cy Ranch boys had the highest finish among all CFISD teams in the boys competition.

Kahla Middle School students and staff held Bears for the Blue, collecting new and used stuffed animals for the CFISD police department and other police departments.

According to a district press release, 160 stuffed animals were collected, and will be given to children in need.

Kelsey Jackson, paraprofessional Kelsey Jackson and secretary Dolores Frayler, planned the drive as an opportunity for students to help others. The drive started on January 5th and ended on January 13th.
"This was a service initiative that gave back to the community," Jackson said. "I've talked to some kids who are economically disadvantaged and it's great to hear them talk about giving up their stuffed animals to someone else who might be in need. They are getting something back, but it is not tangible. He is doing a good act of service."
