As we approach the middle of the semester, we're excited for spring break to arrive and the opportunity for us all to recharge and enjoy a well-deserved break. I hope that your students will have a rest and refreshment during this time and I hope that many of them will return home for the fall season.

We had a hot day on campus and one of my favorite activities was going out on the playground and talking to your students, meeting puppies running around and throwing balls all the time. It's really nice to see the nursery waking up these days and for us all to enjoy spending time together out here in the beautiful valley.

I would like to give you some advice if your students are traveling during spring break. Remind them of these and other family safety plans you all have.

Recently, we've had a few questions about how to help students when they're concerned about their stash or safety, so we want to put them out to parents as well. We want to make sure you have the most direct access to help and gold. We'll help guide you below. If you are concerned about the immediate safety of a student, you may request a welfare check by calling the police department. They will gather information and send officers to provide security. If the Harrisonburg Police are required to attend, they will advise you on how to proceed.

Our Dean of Students is another great resource and I encourage you to use it to report any concerns you may have that do not require an immediate response through their Madison Cares referral form. Deans of Students are designed to communicate and support your students, and they can be a great resource when you have concerns or need to discuss how your students are doing. On the other hand, although I am very active on social media, writing messages through these forums is not the best way to get a response, especially in an emergency. The police department is the best place to start if you have an emergency, as they have officers and dispatchers on call 24 hours a day. Although you may have heard, I struggle to get a few hours of sleep each night so I don't always see your posts. If I need to get involved, don't worry, the Harrisonburg Police Chief knows where I am!

The last semester of this semester is usually full of exciting events and outdoor activities. Spring sports have just started, so I look forward to seeing many of your students there. Encourage your students to come out and get involved if they haven't already. The Dukes Weekly and Events Calendar is a great way to find more upcoming events. The rest of the semester will fly by and before you know it, we will be reunited with the families of the Class of 2022 to celebrate their graduation and their contributions.

Your students can invite relatives / friends to campus for Sibs & Kids Day! Organized by Sibs & Kids Day, Sibs & Kids Day is a fun and informative day of events and activities for students and their guests aged 12-17 to share your college experience in a unique way.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, 2022 from noon to 8 p.m. Registration is free for students and $32 for guests. Attendees receive access to campus events, food tickets, Sibs & Kids Day t-shirts and goody bags.

A full schedule of events is planned for you and your guests, providing plenty of opportunities to explore the campus and share your college experience. Activities include roping workshops, X-Labs activities, recreational activities at the University Recreation Center, indoor food, spring football games, scavenger hunts, campus and more. If students expect to receive a federal grant, they should complete a summer grant application, regardless of enrollment level. Receiving a Pell Grant in the summer will not reduce the award pool for the fall and spring semesters. (The only exception to this is if students limit their lives to get the Pell)

On the other hand, taking out student loans directly in the summer will reduce loan eligibility for the following fall and spring terms. For example,… Teens can borrow up to $7,500 for the school year, so if $4,000 is used in the summer to give $3,500 to be split between fall and spring.

The selection of returning students will take place between April 4 and 8. If not, this is a good time to do so. Some of the more important room selection dates are below. You may want to make sure your students know about these dates!

Jmu Football, Other Sports Moving To Sun Belt In 2022; Full Fbs Schedule For Football

Earlier this month, the Sun Belt announced its 2022 football schedule. James Madison Football will play 10 FBS games and 10 non-conference FCS games. Family Weekend Set for Saturday, October 1st vs. Texas! Season tickets are now on sale with a priority date of May 15. Season tickets offer the best seating options and prices for fans and include one free parking ticket per account. Tickets for the single game will be available from July 1.

UREC is excited to offer a new program called "Core & Connect" after spring break, which aims to connect students in a positive and supportive team environment. We hope to help your Duke make new friends, develop healthy habits, and increase comfort in coming to UREC.
