Busch Gardens Tampa Crowd Calendar: Avoid The Busy Days!
As if planning Disney's crowd calendar for 2022 wasn't difficult enough, last year's Disney World park closures made things even more difficult. To predict what will happen in the rest of the year, we need to take a close look at what has happened so far since the start of the recovery phase.
As attendance has increased since the park opened, we will discuss whether 2022 is expected to see the same increase or if it will decrease to the most anticipated levels.
Note that any traditional Disney World crowd calendar has been thrown out the window since the park's reopening, as attendance has been difficult to predict with any reliability until now.
The Best Times To Visit Disney World In 2023
Some of our predictions for 2021 came true (overall, one of the smallest years in Disney World history), but with so many unpredictable factors, we also made a lot of mistakes. Any predictions for 2022 should be taken with a grain of salt, as this year is harder than ever to understand the crowds.
2021 is an interesting year to say the least and we don't know how crowd levels will react throughout the year. There are many unknowns, such as the current health crisis, the economy, and the general willingness of guests to travel (not that this will change in 2022).
Walt Disney World continues its phased reopening, starting with Disney's Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios in 2020. Things still haven't returned to normal, so Disney is still referring to what it's currently calling a phased reopening.
How Disney World's New Date Based Ticket Pricing Will Affect You
Overall, the crowds last year were extremely low compared to usual. In 2020, theme parks can feel like ghost towns at times, and while 2021 numbers are pretty low, if you go in the right week, wait times at many attractions won't exceed 15-20 minutes.
Things started to calm down in January 2021, then traffic picked up slightly in February and then in March and April as people started to travel more for Spring Break and Easter. During these months, the park was so crowded that even with reduced capacity, the park was still full.
There was a bit of a lull in May and June, but then in July the crowds grew and felt like normal Disney World crowd levels. Much of this is due to the increased capacity of theme parks and fireworks returning to the parks.

If you really want to check the numbers, our friends at Thrill-data.com have some incredible charts where you can see that wait times have been steadily increasing throughout the year.
The chart above shows Magic Kingdom wait times from early 2020 to December 2021. You can see that the average wait time per attraction was less than 14 minutes when the park reopened, up from 41 minutes late last year.
As every year, there was a sharp decline in August and September. In fact, the average wait time for all attractions was just 20 minutes in September, the lowest in over a year.
Disney World Crowds In 2022
October is the 50th anniversary and a few things, just not as much as I originally thought.
When the holiday season arrives, the park is packed again, with November and December of last year being the first and third busiest months since the park reopened.
So does this mean the crowd will continue to grow in 2022 and beyond? Yes, we think it is very possible.
Recent Questions About The Touringplans Crowd Calendar
During the spring and summer months from September to December, the number of people always increases due to holidays and school schedules. However, the increase we saw last year has more to do with the current health crisis as people start to travel again and park capacity increases dramatically.
Last year's low level was due to several factors. Many out-of-state travelers were hesitant to travel at first, but after a few months of seeing how Disney handled the changes and procedures, they decided to feel more comfortable with the idea. Eliminating some procedures, such as the need to wear masks outside, can help attract guests who previously wanted to wait.
Additionally, many DVC members had to spend points on canceled trips in 2020 and early 2021, and were "forced" to go to Disney World last year to avoid losing points.
Best Time To Go To Disney World
Attendance at the Disney Parks was up significantly this year by over 35% (the last actual number they reported). Yes, guests still have to use Disney's new park pass system to reserve parks and are limited each day, but crowd levels seem close to normal.
Recently, Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced that they will soon increase park capacity again in an "aggressive" way. This outlook was prior to the latest increase in new cases, but as the current health situation improves over the next few months, we expect park capacity to increase again.
As Disney manages the parks more efficiently in this new "normal," Disney will slowly increase capacity to a level where it can safely operate the parks.
Disney World In January (2023)
Travel restrictions initially played a major role in the low rush, but are no longer a factor now that US travel restrictions have been eased and borders are reopening to international travelers. In 2022, people from Europe or South America will have more opportunities to visit WDW, which will help increase attendance.
Then there are economic problems. Originally we thought it would be more of a problem because people wouldn't have as much disposable income to go on trips to theme parks and so on. So far, this hasn't been much of a stumbling block for tourists, as consumers are spending big and Americans are saving like never before.
All of these are a combination of collective level factors that exist in Walt Disney World. Some of these factors should continue to improve in 2022, and we anticipate more people at the park than last year.
