Clemson Academic Calendar Spring 2023 – GREENSBORO, Conn. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday announced a new football schedule that will begin in the 2023 season.

The new model is based on a 3-5-5 structure, with each team playing its three major rivals each year and playing against the other 10 teams in the league twice in a four-year period, once at home and once in the offseason. The schedule allows each of the four teams to play all 13 opponents at home and away at least once during the four-year rotation. The structure was adopted today by the association's sporting directors and representatives of sports teachers.

In a 6-1 vote, with two board members absent, the Aiken County Board of Education approved the revised calendar for the 2023-24 school year at its meeting Tuesday night.

With the modified schedule, students will have a shorter summer and instead have two weeks off in the fall and spring semesters. One week each semester is Remedial Week, and students who need academic assistance have the opportunity to receive it.

The revised calendar for the 2023-24 school year will cause students to begin classes on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. November 22nd to November 24th. Christmas break for students is from December 20, 2023 to January 3, 2024. Spring break is from April 1st to April 12th, and Holy Week is from April 1st to 5th, 2024. 2024.

Other holidays on the proposed calendar include Labor Day on September 4, 2023; Weather Make-up Day Friday, October 20 January 15 Martin Luther King Jr Day Holiday and President's Day Friday February 16 and Monday February 19, 2024. Board member Jason Crane was the lone vote against the schedule. During the meeting, he also expressed concern about how the schedule would affect various programs such as athletics, band and the Gateway performing arts program.

The Aiken County Board of Education will vote on a proposed calendar for the 2023-24 school year at its meeting Tuesday.

"I'm concerned that the short summer … will affect athletics, band and gate," Crane said after the meeting. "I'm sure the district will, but I also think it's a big negative for us. "I voted my conscience."

Crane also said he supports the concept of a modified calendar, with only two weeks off per semester.

"…I'm not so sure we need two weeks for this vacation," Crane said. "I think a week will be enough, but the board voted on what we voted for, and I'll support it after that." .

At the meeting, Aiken County Superintendent Lawrence King said the summer of 2023 would be tough for band practice because there would normally be three weeks of summer camp. But listeners have several options.

Lawrence noted that the tournament is organized by state and that there are schedules for various schools in South Carolina. He also suggested spending a week in the band during the summer and using the time off for additional music camps.

"Yeah, you're used to having three weeks of camp in the summer, but what about taking a week-long summer camp and using that vacation time for extra bands?" Lawrence said. As for the sports schedule, Lawrence said the tournament schedule is set by the state, so they won't be affected too much. Internships, especially summer internships, and their schedules need to be adjusted.

"Football and other fall sports are (games) during that time," Lawrence said. "It's no different than having basketball on Christmas break and baseball and softball on spring break."

Another concern is how well the two-week repair works. Crane said he doesn't believe the two-week leave served its intended purpose, and he feels the same way.

The Aiken County Board of Education approved a revised calendar for the 2023-24 school year at a meeting Tuesday night.

"We can build 30 minutes of intervention every day [of the school year]," Lawrence said. "The 30-minute intervention is a good focused intervention for our small group students … If we look at a five-hour day during this intervention period, that's 10 times more than their normal school day. So for five days they are 50 times longer than a regular school day. This week of intervention is equivalent to 50 days of intervention in the school year and may be 30 minutes per session.

"Everything we do for these students is designed to help them succeed next semester," Lawrence said. "I think we can do very well this week. "In fact, we heard from a school district a few weeks ago that they saw results with just one week of intervention."

As for the gate, Lawrence said it should be 30 days and they are thinking about how to do it in 30 days. The possibilities he mentions include 20 or 25 days in the summer, five days in the fall, or five days in the fall and spring.

"After the first year, everything becomes easier because you have another week," Lawrence said. "An extra week may not seem like much, but it gives you a little more flexibility when planning for the summer."

School Board President, Dr. John Bradley said he was skeptical of the changed schedule, but that the majority of people he interviewed supported it influenced his decision to vote for approval.

"I'm going to vote yes knowing that we're going to cause a lot of trouble for some people," Bradley said. "I apologize for that. But then again, I don't think we should do what most people want to do, or do it for illogical reasons."

During the Jan. 25 meeting, board members approved the change to the revised calendar concept, but did not approve the actual calendar at that time.
