Njit Academic Calendar 2023 – Since 1766, Rutgers Preparatory School has been preparing students for the challenges of college and beyond. At the high school, students enjoy many of our traditions, from the first camping trip in September to the assembly before they begin – we appreciate the connection to the past that our traditions provide. The school year is filled with annual events such as Career Day, Burger Blast, and Commencement, and daily traditions such as morning assembly, where the entire high school comes together to hear students and teachers promote events. next, they announce the results of the sport. and learning contests, praise the awards won by our students, or share sad thoughts.

Many of our academic and other courses reflect the diversity of our community, but through the daily experience of working and interacting with students and teachers from many backgrounds we begin to understand the benefits of living in a multicultural community. At Rutgers Prep, about 40% of our students are "students of color" – we celebrate not only Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, but also Diwali, Eid-al-Fitr, and Chinese New Year. Although many institutions promote "color blindness," we recognize the freedom of race, religion, socioeconomic status, gender equality, and other diversity in our society, and we use these assets to promote harmony and ease in our daily activities. .

High school students understand the RPS motto: Severa res est verum gaudium – "Hard work is true joy." Excellence in classrooms, art studios, playgrounds, playgrounds and the wider community in which students live is a direct result of the effort and dedication they demonstrate. High school students are assigned a counselor when they enter school. Typically, mentors stay with their group of up to ten students as they transition from freshman year to high school. The counselor plays an important role in guiding students to become independent, active participants and leaders who enrich the school and the wider community. Coaches meet regularly with coaches, either in short meetings to share important information, or longer meetings to discuss specific topics. They also work on base with their individual meetings during the school day, and regularly through meetings as needed.

The counselor's role is to listen carefully, give advice, praise, facilitate communication between home and school, and provide unbiased feedback on issues that arise. The counselor often has a unique opportunity to provide information related to the counselor's status to parents and school teachers, coaches or administrators to assist them in their work with the student.

The counselor has a "big picture" view of the student's progress, academically and otherwise, and acts as an advocate for the student, especially when starting high school, where it can be difficult for a student to initiate or manage difficult conversations with teachers. The counselor is a sound council of students, who gives advice on how to deal with problems, and encourages the student to participate in the daily life of the school community. She helps the student set realistic and achievable goals and discusses the student's strategies for achieving those goals.

Rutgers Prep encourages and supports volunteerism among its students – High School students have completed more than 11,000 community service hours in the past, despite remaining isolated and closed during the school year. As part of the curriculum, Rutgers Prep requires all high school students to do at least 10 hours of community service each school year and reflect on their experiences, and many choose to go above and beyond. For those students who work 50 hours or more in a given year, we offer an honorary degree. The highest level of recognition is the "Honor 250" award for working 250 hours a year.

All Rutgers Preparatory classrooms, from kindergarten through twelfth grade, have Apple TVs and apps, allowing our teachers to share digital resources with their students. Whether it's digital or interactive, teaching and learning are enhanced by combining digital technology with projection.

In keeping with its tradition of blending the new with the old, the College announced the launch of an expanded iPad program for the 2013-2014 school year. After much thought and discussion, the high school teachers decided that all students would be required to have an iPad.

Technology is also being used to provide students and teachers with access to digital tools and resources. Electronic books are readily available and affordable while providing a fun alternative to traditional text.

As a Google Apps school our teachers and students use the latest management system to enhance their learning. In addition, we use modern learning management systems to facilitate communication between students and teachers across the school day and institutional boundaries. Whether it's checking an assignment, contributing to a conversation, or accessing digital resources, it's an essential part of our 21st century education.

In the high school humanities department, our history teachers work with students to understand the past and develop the skills to apply that knowledge to the world we live in today. Our goal is to encourage students to actively participate in the history they are involved in. Our program introduces students to cultures, events and forces of change from around the world, past and present. We offer opportunities to gather and apply knowledge and critical thinking to issues in the social sciences – history, geography, political theory, economics, sociology, psychology and anthropology.

In addition to knowledge and skills, we strive to develop responsible attitudes and actions. We emphasize the value and dignity of each person, encouraging students to respect themselves and others. We introduce the principles and practices of democracy and encourage students to examine the various economic, social, political and environmental issues of our time. Students will develop an awareness of these challenges and the ability to find, evaluate and use information to solve these problems. We study the past not only to understand the present but also to know the future.

A social foundation is needed for new students, teenagers who must take America is. history, and seniors must choose a history year. Studying history in the second year is highly recommended.
