Lodi Unified School District Calendar 2023-2024 – The actions of California lawmakers have been followed. Legislation is a process. It takes time. There are many hearings and amendments before the governor signs the bill into law.

In the field of child welfare and attendance, it is important for all of us to be aware of the status of our bills. The purpose of this page is to draw attention to the status of key pending bills, connect our members and friends with the actual bills being discussed, and identify when relevant bills become law. We are fortunate to have three legislative representatives, Alan Dosty, Sherman Garnett and Dan Martin.

Dr. Allen L. Dosty, Jr. is the Child Welfare and Attendance Coordinator for our Lodi Unified School District in San Joaquin, serving 32,000 students. For more than 20 years, he has dedicated his life to educating and enriching children's lives and working to remove barriers to create choice and excellence in education for all students. He began his educational career as a teacher and administrator in Grant Union Union High School District (now Twin Rivers USD), working with promising students; before transitioning to Lodi USD. He has worked at Lodi USD as a webmaster and principal in both traditional and alternative educational settings for the past 12 years and in his current position for the past three years. Dosty is passionate about helping others and believes that education opens many doors and provides life choices in all areas of human endeavor.

Sherman Garnett has been a public school educator for 45 years. During this time, Sherman held a variety of positions, including teacher, athletic head coach, dean, vice-principal, principal, child welfare and attendance administrator, and board member. Currently, Sherman is an associate professor of school administration at California State University, San Bernardino, specializing in school law, and director of the School of Student Services at the California Association of School Administrators (ACSA). Sherman has served for more than two decades, including as department and state president.

Dan Martin is the Child Welfare and Attendance Coordinator for the Central Valley Los Banos Unified School District, which serves a very diverse population. start his 34

A year as an educator promoting and helping the community where he was born and raised. During these 34 years of experience, Dan has served in a variety of roles, including teaching promising students in self-sufficient classrooms, athletic head coach, dean of students, and general high school principal of 2,500 students. Listed below is a brief summary of the existing legislation that has been introduced, with little or no objection. Please note that each of the bills listed has received legislative approval by the state Senate or Assembly before the legislative deadline in the first week of June to continue the legislative process. AB 58 (Salas) – Local educational institutions will be required to review and update their policies on student suicide prevention by June 1, 2024, and revise their training materials to incorporate best practices identified by the department into the departmental model policy.

AB 408 (Quirk Silva) – The LEA Homeless Liaison is required to provide annual training for classified and certified employees working with or related to homeless students.

AB 452 (Friedman) – Requires school districts, county education offices, and charter schools to notify parents of the California Child Exposure Prevention Act and laws related to the safe storage of firearms at the beginning of each term or each quarter of a normal term.

AB 740 (McCarty) – Will give foster children's attorneys and county social workers the same rights as the child's parent or guardian to receive notices of suspension, expulsion, performance determination, involuntary transfer, and other documents and related Information. In addition, attorneys and social workers have the authority to initiate a hearing determined by a neutral hearing officer before a foster child may be involuntarily expelled from a charter school.

AB 748 (Carrillo) – Requires that, before the start of the 2023-2024 school year, the school district, county education office, or each school site for charter schools in grades 6 through 12, in any grade, produce posters to identify methods and share information about student psychology healthy resources. Posters must be displayed prominently in a prominent location at each school.

AB 1797 (Weber) – Will require health care providers and other agencies, including schools, to disclose specific immunization information, and will add the race or ethnicity of patients or clients that should or may be disclosed.

AB 1810 (Levine) – Will authorize the LEA to designate one or more volunteers to be trained at the student's school on emergency use and anti-epileptic medication management upon request from the student's parent or guardian.

AB 2274 (Rubio) – Allows for a failure to report an incident of child abuse or serious neglect known or reasonably suspected by an authorized reporter to be brought within one year of the discovery of the crime, but never after four years of the crime.

AB 2337 (Dahle)-Education Code defines a "frontier school district" as a school district that meets certain attendance or population criteria. (ADA 600 or below)

AB 2355 (Salas) – Requires school districts, county education offices or charter schools to report any cyberattack affecting 500 students or personnel to the newly established California Center for Cybersecurity Integration.

SB 70 (Rubio) – Beginning in the 2022-2023 school year, children are required to complete one year of kindergarten before entering first grade in public elementary schools.

SB 387 (Portantino) – Requires that 75% of its confidential and certified employees have received state Department of Education youth behavioral health training as required on or before January 1, 2025.

SB 532 (Caballero) – will require the LEA to notify homeless, foster care students, former juvenile court school students, children of military families or immigrant children or students who choose to remain in school 5

SB 866 (Wiener) – Authorizes minors 12 years of age or older to consent to vaccinations that meet certain federal agency standards. In addition, defined vaccine providers will be empowered to administer vaccines under the Act.

Wisconsin School Calendar 2022 And 2023

SB 955 (Leyva) – Includes one day of excused absenteeism per year for any middle school or high school student participating in civic or political activity.

SB 1057 (Board of Education) – Removes requirement to suspend or delay issuance of driving privileges in mandatory truancy notices.

SB 1080 (Min) – Requires a school district or school planning to host a college or career fair to notify each community college district with overlapping jurisdiction within the school district or school district where the college or career fair is planned to be held as prescribed.

SB 1273 (Bradford) – Removed authorization to notify law enforcement when school employees are assaulted, assaulted, or physically threatened. The task of notifying law enforcement officers of students in possession of certain hazardous items on campus has been removed.

AB 1786 (Davies) – Requires the school district of residence to approve in-area transfer requests for low-performing students as defined by the district if the attending school is in a red or orange performance ban in two or more of the state California Schools Dashboard Continuous three-year measures.

AB 2335 (Nguyen) – Requires a parent or guardian, or a person designated by the parent or guardian, to present a valid government-issued ID to school staff in order for students to be dismissed during normal school hours.
